WEAO & Water for People

I have about one thousand pictures of sewing creations to share right now, but I'm going to pause for a quick minute to tell you about an awesome group. They are called WEAO - The Water Environment Association of Ontario, and they rule!

A coworker of mine introduced them to me this fall, and I am so impressed with all of the interesting, important, and fun work they do.

Their mission, in their words is to "Advance the water environment industry by: providing bold leadership, connecting water environment professionals, leveraging knowledge, encouraging innovation, and enhancing public understanding".

I love, love that enhancing public understanding is right there in their mission. It is what I think can bring about the most change and commitment to water security.

But beyond that, they are supporters of Water for People. A group which really could have their own post. Water for People, in their own words "exists for one purpose, and it’s as simple as our name: we want all people to have safe, continuous water, and when they do, our job will be done. We want water for everyone, forever". It's an amazing, profound and brave goal.

This holiday season I've decided to give my lucky family members donations in their name (along with a handmade gifts). I often get overwhelmed around Christmas with all the stuff we don't need. So this year, I'm doing something about it! I'm excited to give something that I can feel good about giving. I know that Water for People will be well deserving of the donation.

Is there a charity out there you love? An alternate you prefer to traditional gifts? Let me know!

DIY Buttons!

Recently I found out that a store close to me rents a button machine! This was very exciting information.
(The buttons above will be avaliable at a craft fair I am selling at - details to come. They will also be avaliable on my Etsy shop* opening December 14th!)

Upon the discovery that I could make my own buttons, I promptly organized a button making party with a few friends! It was a huge success and so much fun.

We ended up with 6 people and 200 buttons. More than enough to go around! We probably only needed 150, but it was great to be able to have some extras to play with and not worry if a few turned out a little wonky.
I made the bulk of the buttons, as I was planning to make some to sell on my Etsy Shop*. But it was so much fun to see what everyone else made there buttons out of. We also took the pins off of the back of a few and glued magnets onto them. Instant DIY magnets!

I have long been a lover of buttons. I always had a pile of pins and buttons on the back of my school bag growing up. Whether they were proclaiming to "SAVE THE EARTH" or simply "BE HAPPY!" I kind of just love them... So let's face it - buttons are amazing.

*Etsy Shop opening soon! Details to come! :)
