Great News

I've known this for almost a week now, but I've been so nervous to jinx it that I haven't said anything.

I got a job!!

I am thrilled to be beginning my career working in the construction industry as a junior engineer. I am very excited to learn as much as possible, and to start utilizing some of the skills I gained during my studies, and summer jobs (as well as my time in The Netherlands).

Watch out world, you may just have another Linda Alvarado on your hands ;)

New Pillow Covers!

I recently moved into a semi-furnished room. I am between houses, and am just subletting for a few months until I find a place that I (hope to!) stay for a more extended amount of time.

In the mean time, I have been provided with an awesome double bed, with a pretty great gray comforter. Unfortunately, all my pillows were random colours that didn't match. Lucky for me I had a LOT of matching scrap fabric, for a large pillow cover, and the local fabric store had a massive sale this weekend. All this combined meant new pillow covers for me!

I decided to try something new for the longer pillows this time (the big one in the back, and the small one to the right on the bed above) - I added zippers! I thought it would be beneficial to be able to take the covers off for washing, but the shape made them a bit awkward for just slip in covers. The zippers were much easier than I imagined, and I love the clean look of them.

This is the tutorial I followed to put the zippers in: http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2013/02/zippered-pillow-cover.html it is very clear, and such a good method!

Lucky for me, they were extremely affordable to make, and really pull my room together. I'm so glad I made them!

January Goals

As I've mentioned a few times, I am going to continue this year with my Monthly Goals system! I am loving how it helps to motivate me for my small personal goals. As usual, I waited a bit to let January settle before stating my goals for this month.

2014 Resolutions & Goals

In 2013 I set some pretty fun goals for myself. I came through and accomplished almost all of them (only coming up short on my book goal, reading 12 instead of 15 books). I also started doing monthly goals which turned out to be an amazing experiment and a great project that I plan to continue in 2014.

I am excited to share my 2014 resolutions and goals here again this year (yes, a few of them are repeat goals from 2013, but I just liked them so much!)

  1. Get a job in the Engineering field (I sure as heck hope I can cross this one off sooner than later!)
  2. Donate time (and once the first goal is achieved, money) to a charity you care about. Ideally, at least once a month.
  3. Read 15 books. And reaaaally do it this time!
  4. Post a video to my youtube channel at least 3/4 weeks per month.
  5. Improve my level of fluency in Dutch (If possible, take a formal class)
It was very hard to narrow these goals down to 5 (but I have a rule to limit myself to 5, so that I can really commit to them). There are so many other things I want to (and hope to) do this year. For my own indulgence and record keeping, here are a few many items that didn't make it into the official list:

  • visit The Netherlands again (even better would be twice)
  • travel to at least 1 new county
  • improve my writing
  • craft waaaay more than you did in 2013
  • sew more as well!
  • make at least 3 quilts
  • connect with new people on youtube, and *fingers crossed* do a collaboration video
  • raise money for women for women international again
  • try to improve your cooking skills (and maybe even care a bit more about what you are eating.. vegetables are important!)
  • take more zumba classes
  • do morning yoga
  • get better at fixing/building/using tools
  • play soccer in a rec-league this summer
  • I'm sure there are about a million more things I could add to this...

Needless to say, limiting my goals was needed! What are you new years resolutions or goals? Do you even make any? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy New Year!

You may, or may not, have noticed that I skipped posting this week. It was definitely time for a little break, and I was happy to take it. Now that I am moved into my new place (yes, I moved AGAIN!) I am hoping to get back into the swing of things, and maybe even do a few more crafting posts!

But in the mean time, I will just say Happy New Year!!
