Another Year, Another Reflective Post...

To be totally honest, I didn't really want to write this post. I didn't follow through on a few of my goals that I thought were really important when I wrote them. But also (once again) I don't even think some of them apply to my life anymore. Sometimes what you want one month changes by the next. BUT I think for me it is important to look back on my goals so that I can be better at both setting and achieving them in the future.

So what did I say my goals were last year? And how did I do? (Spoiler allert: I did okay. Nothing to write home about, but yet, here I am writing about it....)

1. Make a new bed quilt
Were starting out good, because this one I actually completed! Yay!

2. Go to Zumba once a week
I defiantly went a lot more this year, and I loved it every time! I didn't make it every week, but I did okay! (I will partially blame this fail on how dang expensive it is!)

3. Read more
Okay, so were still doing well, because I killed this goal. I read so many books this year! I started to keep track I was so impressed with myself! haha I finished 16 books and am currently in the middle of a 17th. For me, this is HUGE! I'm defiantly going to try and keep up with this.

4. Continue working to find balance in your life
Carly of 2012, you are so cheesy! But ya ya, you did pretty good at this one.

5. Get a "real" job (in the engineering field!)
This goal doesn't apply anymore seeing as I moved across the world. But I'll be honest, this goal is a bummer to read back.

6. Donate another quilt
So sooo embarrassed to say I didn't complete this one.

7. Go on (at least) two out of province trips
Killed this goal! I went to Mississippi, Vancouver, lots in the West Coast USA and I freakin moved to The Netherlands!

8. Work on being more spontaneous
For sure. Its a weird thing to "work on" but some how I do think I got better at this. I especially felt I grew in this area during my 3 week trip to the west coast US.

9. Make a bigger effort with friends in different cities
Some months defiantly, and some months not so much... overall I think I got slightly better.. hopefully!

10. Journal more
I think I may have journal-ed less this year. Ah man! But I did write an awesome travel journal during my US trip. It was complete with polaroid pictures from the trip!

11. Make a series of 'art pieces' that go together
Not even close...

Aaand, my Something Sunday and Wordless Wednesday goals
Man, I had so much fun with these goals! And I have to say, I did pretty damn well! I only missed 3/52 weeks with something Sunday and only 1/52 weeks with wordless Wednesdays! I'm so so thrilled with this, and really hope to keep it up in 2013.

So after going through these, I actually did better then I thought I did. But I still want to work on both my goal writing and my follow through!

Happy 2013 Everyone!!

Something Sunday 52: Christmas Cards

I didn't make home made cards this year, but I did add a little extra to the ones I bought. I (finally) used up some of the washi tape I've been hording, and I used some of my new stamps as well!

I was excited to buy cards that had Dutch instead of English this year! I did see a few English cards at the store, but that wouldn't have been nearly as fun.

I added a stamp on the inside as well (on the right page) that reads "you are my sunshine". I thought it was a cute little addition. I also put in a copy of my graduation picture from this past June, because, I figured that's what people do when they graduate!

Carly's Thankful For...

This week I'm thankful for...
- My bike! (so helpful)
- Having co-workers my age!
- Everyone's kindness to me because I'm away from home this Christmas
- a good wifi connection! (Or weefee, as the Dutch pronounce it)
- The fact that I'm starting to get the hang of things at work

Something Sunday 51: Travel Sewing Kit

Last week I made a little bag to take my hand sewing projects with me on the train! The only problem is, this week I found an even better pattern for possibly the best sewing bag ever! Oh well! For now, I have this bad boy, and I know it will work just fine.

It's definitely colourful, and I love that! I also used up the last bit of my travel fabric which was good because I didn't think I'd have another "travel" item to use it on. It has two pockets on the outside and two on the inside, which will hopefully come in handy! I do wish I had added interfacing so it held its shape a bit better, but like I said, it will do for now!

Also, I am really freakin proud of the zipper on this one (anyone who knows about my sewing habits, knows I always hate my zippers), so this was a big deal for me! Sewing joys!

PS: I missed both Something Sunday and Wordless Wednesday here on the blog last week! Oops! I've been so busy since I moved I forgot to post anything. BUT I have everything lined up for the last bit of 2012, and I'm happy to say I will have achieved my Something Sunday goals, and I only missed one Wordless post (this week) I'd say that is pretty good!

Something Sunday 49: Sleeping Mask

After staying in a few different hostels I've realized that the people with sleeping masks and ear plugs are the ones who have it figured out! As lame (and kind of diva-ish) as this item may seem, I'm very happy I made it. I already used in on an airplane ride! Plus if it's home made, people can't assume I'm a diva, right??

Ya... I spelled accurate wrong, but I didn't want to re-make the image. oops!

I used this amazing flannel fabric that I got from a friend of mine (nothing is quite as good as free fabric!) and I had left over elastic from an old project. The mask came together in under an hour and I had to unpick a few errors along the way, so it could come together even faster if you don't mess up! I used this tutorial from Nifty Thrifty Things and found it to be really easy to follow (I messed up because I thought I had it figured out and stopped reading, not because it was unclear!)

I'm so glad I made it out of flannel and not silk (like you see in stores) because it is so soft and cozy when I wear it. It's like pajamas for your face!

A Movie About Moving

As I've mentioned a few times non-stop over the last month, I'm moving to Holland (well as of now I have officially moved!) I've been here 2 days, and I'm loving it! I decided to start a youtube channel to share some of the interesting things I see over the year. Depending on how many I end up making I might not share them all on here, but I plan to share a few. I will warn that this was my first vlog, and there are a few awkward moments along the way, but that's all part of the fun, right?

Hope you enjoy! If you want to see all of them you can Subscribe on youtube! :)

Something Sunday 48: Lens Cap Case AND Lanyard

This week I'm going to share two projects! They are both pretty small, so I didn't think one alone would be enough.

I made a little lanyard to replace the horrible one I had been using the past few months, and I also made a lens cap case for my camera strap.

The lanyard was a project I had had in mind for a few months before I got it done, and I'm so glad I did it.

As you can see from the picture above, my old lanyard was... umm... embarrassing to say the least! I got it for free, and it was really handy, but it says "goddess" on it, so it had to go. I'm very happy to have a new, and not super awkward lanyard! It makes finding my keys in my bag much easier.

The lens cap holder was also something I had been thinking about making for a while, but I wasn't sure if it would look a bit too much like I was a permanent tourist. I'm still not sure about it, but for now I'm going to keep it.

Like I said, I'm still not sold, what do you think? Does it make me look like a perma-tourits? I can always just slide it off the strap if I decide its too much for me! (also, check out that rouge hair in the pic below!)

I'm really happy to have finished both of these in the last few weeks! It's nice to be getting things off the to-do list.

Carly's Thankful For...

This week I'm thankful for...
- The fact that the move went so sooo smoothly
- The fact that everyone has been so kind to me here
- all my friends and family for being AMAZING before I left!!
- The few words I have been able to say in Dutch
- This opportunity! :)
