Sewing Lessons!

I'm not sure how many of you out there are local readers, but for those of you out there who are in the Guelph area, I have news for you!

I have decided to start offering sewing lessons! I am excited to pass long what I have learned over the past 4 years of sewing.

If you or your child are looking to learn to sew, make your own bags, blankets, quilts and more please send me an email. I will be teaching lessons out of my home (located in Downtown Guelph), and providing the sewing machine and basic notions (ie: needles, tools etc). Materials will even be provided for your first lesson!

Lessons are $25/hour, and can be tailored to what you are most interested in learning to sew. Please contact me at: asewciallife@gmail.com if you are interested!

Something Sunday 20: Pencil Case

A few weeks ago The Life of a Cupcake hosted a giveaway that I sponsored. I had one case made but I said I would make 2 additional cases of the winners choice. This week I finished the two additional cases and sent them off to the winner!

The case I had already sewn is the larger blue case (that I wrote about before) and the pencil case and wristlet are the new ones.

Because I was travelling when the winner was announced it took me almost 5 weeks to get the giveaway into the mail. In an attempt to make up for the delay, I added a little hand-made notebook to the prize.

It was great to have a project with a deadline this past week. I had been away from crafting for what felt like a very long time, so I'm glad to be back at it :)

Reflections on Travelling alone

I will be the first to admit before I took off on my latest adventure, alone, to the west coast, I was sceptical. I didn't really understand people who travelled alone, and I kind of assumed they were lying when they said it was awesome. The only reason I ended up on a trip alone was because I was determined to see the west coast, and none of the people I would have liked to travel with were able to join me.

BUT, it turns out these people who seem to love travelling alone aren't crazy! It was freaking awesome! The funny thing is though, one of the main reasons it was awesome was because of all the different people I met along the way. (Okay, and also being totally self indulgent and doing whatever I wanted the whole time was good too). But a big part of the fun was definitely the new people I met. So I don't really know if the fun is from being alone, but it was definitely great to be away from my comfort zone.

I loved getting to meet knew people, and see new things with them. It definitely pushed me to be far more spontaneous then normal. I'm an over planner my nature, so that fact that I didn't have every minute planned out was already a surprise, but the fact that I basically ignored any kind of schedule day to day (aside from when to move to the next city) was an actual miracle. It was so freeing!

I am already planning to do it again! I know I had an exceptionally good time with it, and that not all trips are as smooth or with out problems, but I still think its worth doing again. Especially right now! What else do I have to do?!

Only problem with travelling alone, is I really over did the selfsie pics.... Don't judge me.

Something Sunday 19: Summer Scarf

I bought some super light weight fabric when I was in India last August, and decided it was perfect summer scarf fabric. I only bought a meter, so I had to sew it with an awkward seem half way through the length of the scarf, but it isn't very noticeable once it's on.

I ended up making it longer than I intended, but this way I can wear it once or twice around my neck if I want to.

All the edges are just folded over twice and stitched up with white thread. Nice and simple! Next week I will have the cases I made for last months give-away winner to share. :)

(almost) Wordless Wednesday

First off, I see I have a few new followers. Hi! Thanks for coming to look at my little crafty mess over here :)

Second, I missed Something Sunday this week! Oh Dang. I was still travelling and I had nothing but my journal to share, and I really didn't want the internet to have pictures of it to read. I've decided, as a personal goal, to miss no more than 5 Something Sundays, and to miss 0 Wordless Wednesdays. The WW's are so easy, there is no reason I should miss them, but the SS's require a bit more work, so I'll give myself a few free passes. Because I missed this past Sunday, I'm down to 4/5 free passes.... better keep crafting while I'm home!

Now that I'm home I'll hopefully be able to write up some fun posts about what I saw over the past 4 weeks. To sum it up, I'm in love with the West Coast... especially California. It's the most cliché thing to love, but it turns out its true, the west coast is awesome. For now, I'll share a few pictures from early in the trip.

Something Sunday 18: The rest of those lists...

Remember this post? When I said I would share a new set of lists each week?.... ya, I really flaked out on that. Sorry! But I did finish the lists! So I am here to share them.

For the month of March I wrote a list each day (or more accurately a few lists every few days). I did this with the 30Lists blog, and it was a lot of fun! It was meant to challenge me to scrapbook one little thing each day, but it ended up being more every couple of days. I was happy with how it went though, and now I have a little package of lists from March 2012!

Here are the remaining ones I wanted to share...
