More Travel!

I am once again planing to go on a trip! It looks like I will be achieving my new years goal of "two out-of-province trips" very early in the year! (I guess that means I get to up the goal next year)

I will be visiting the west coast including Vancouver, Portland, San Francisco, and possibly San Jose and Seattle. Its going to be very flexible, so we'll see what happens!

Before I head out though (not for another month), I thought I would start up a new series about the places I have been! It wont have a weekly installment like Something Sunday, or Wordless Wednesday, I'll just write when I can.

Here is a list of the countries you will see written about:

EDIT: So upon trying to start writing about any of the countries that I visited more than a year or two ago, I realized I couldn't remember enough to write anything that was useful or interesting. So I'm going to skip writing about the old places and just try and write about places I'm going/have been recently!

Because I have travelled a lot in both Canada and the US, when I write about them I will break it down into the province's or states that I have been too. In Canada I have been to every province, so it will take a while to get through all of those! In the US, I have been to 17 States, however lots of them were just passed through on road trips. I would have said 18 states but I just found out that D.C. isn't actually a state, it's a "federal district", who knew!?  Honestly ...I probably won't do this, but I will write about cool things I see in new trips! :)

Something Sunday 12: Summer Dress

I love dresses! They are so fun in the summer, and to be honest, they are way easier to ware because I don't have to match anything!

I normally don't sew clothing, I tend not to have the same success sewing them as I do with blankets and bags. I really don't enjoy patterns, and never use them, so my clothes can come out rather wonky at times. I sewed this dress about 2 years ago, and I was never quite sold on it... but last week it was so sunny and warm, I couldn't help but put it on.

Sometimes time away from a project helps I guess, because I was a lot happier with it when I put it on this year, than when I originally made it. I think the problem I had with it before was that I just didn't love the quality of work I had performed. I'm sure other sewers and artists can relate to seeing all the tiny flaws in your own work. But now, with some time away from it, I can see that for an ammeter sewer, I did okay! (Full Disclosure: My roommates encouraging words definitely inspired this new found confidence in my work!)

Fun fact, when I was putting it on in that inspired morning, I couldn't find the sash that I normally ware with it. I was still kind of unsure about wearing it and was hunting down some kind of belt when I saw one of the shopping bags I accrued while traveling in India. I quickly ripped open the seems, cut the rectangle of fabric in half and then tied the two strips together to create on long ribbon of fabric! I definitely felt very DIY.

Give Away - but not quite yet!

This month I decided I wanted to try sponsoring a blog. I don't have piles of money though, so when the Life of a Cupcake blog offered to take on sponsors in exchange for a giveaway item, I was in!

My sewing machine has been on an extended break as I have been paper crafting up a storm.. but I dusted it off (literally) and got it going this week. I decided to make a few pencil case/clutch/case type things. They seemed like a good idea for a giveaway because I figured everyone can use and extra bag!

The case is made out of my faaaaavorite fabric by Melody Miller. I just can't get enough of her stuff... so pretty! I will also be giving away 2 other bags of the winners choice (clutch, pencil case etc).

The giveaway isn't up yet at The Life of a Cupcake, but as soon as it goes up I will share here so you have a chance to enter! (For those of you unfamiliar with blog giveaways, generally you are just required to comment on the blog post to be entered to win!)

Can't wait to actually mail it off to someone! :)

Something Sunday 11: Hand molded mugs!

About a month ago my sister and I had a 'clay date' and made some mugs at Play with Clay in Guelph. It was a ton of fun! I was a little overwhelmed when we started because I didn't realize there would be so many restrictions (as it turns out, you can't just wing it!). But I ended up being able to come up with something I was excited about.

Julia (my sister) stuck with a more traditional mug, but definitely got creative in her painting, where as I went a little wonky with my mug shape.

Mine is on the left and hers is on the right (if the initials didn't give it away.) I'm pretty excited by how cute they look together!

Julia decided to paint a little heart at the base of hers, so I immediately decided to copy her and do the same! I think they are just great.

I think she also put the imprint of her initials into her mug first. I am just realizing now how much I copied her, and I'm her older sisters.... I don't think we have this figured out right!

Something Sunday 10: Lists!

I didn't intend for the lists to be my Something Sunday this week, however I've been super busy and this was the only thing I ended up making this week.

I've been having a lot of fun with this project! I think it will be a lot of fun to be able to look back and see what I was interested in while making these lists.

11 lists down, 19 left to go!

Scrapbook Journal Continued

I shared my first few entries in my scrapbook journal a little while ago, and I finally took a few more pictures of my latest entries!

Our Engineering Society hosts a 'fake new years' event sometime early on in the winter semester because most people are visiting there parent's over winter break and don't get to celebrate together. It is one of my favourite events that we hold because it is just so silly and fun! This year it was held at a bar, so on February 2nd  a whole group of us were out counting down at midnight yelling happy new years to a very confused bar! It was awesome.

I bought this book around the beginning of my last semester of university (January 2012) for me to just capture all that's happening. I feel like this semester has been flying by and I want to be able to look back and remember all that happened in this last semester of my undergrad! Do far its been easy and fun to maintain, and I think it will be awesome to look back on after I graduate :)

I still have about half of the pages left, and about a month and a half of school, so I imagine it will be easily filled up by the end. March is a very full month of activities for me, so I will hopefully have some neat pages to share in a little while.
