Vintage aka some of my grandma's things

My Grandma is moving into a smaller place in January, and my mom went out last week to help her pack. (We live a province away so it was a big trip)

My mom came back with a few things that my grandma had set aside for me! All of the things she set aside for me were sewing things which I was soo excited about. I love that I can connect with her through sewing. My absolute favorite thing she sent was a pair of pinking shears (which are zig-zag scissors for fabric).

They are amazing, and in such good condition. I have wanted a pair of these scissors for a while, and I'm so glad I waited. They are really handy when using fabric that frays easily (for anyone who's interested.)

She sent a whole bag of other sewing accessories too. She sent three thimbles too, which is great because I have been embroidering more and it is a lot easier with a thimble.. (wow I sound 85! hahah)

I'm going out to visit/help on Dec. 14th, and I'm sure I'll have lots to share after that. I might even find some more "vintage" sewing supplies (a girl can dream right....?)

Homemade Cards

I've been wanting to use some of the pictures I have taken with my new camera in some way, and realized yesterday that they are the perfect size for cards.

I had taken two pictures already that were christmas related, but I did take the "thank you" picture specifically to make the cards. The thank-you card picture didn't turn out exactly as I wanted, but it definitely made me think of a lot of other ways I can use the camera. Very excited to take lots over the winter break!

The picture on the right is of a snowflake light fixture down town (I took it at night which is why it is dark, but I like the cozy dark feel it has.)

I love sending thank you cards, I feel like it makes my grandparents proud haha

Finals have arrived

Don't worry, this pic is from last winter!
So, its been a good November, I really got my blog on! I was posting almost every other day, it was fun... but now... Finals have arrived.

Exams start on Monday which means I will be retreating into a little study world for the next two weeks and probably not have much going on here (unless the opposite happens and I need a ton of breaks, and I end up posting way more, and now that I think about it, it could really go either way!)

In the mean time I will leave you with my Christmas quilt! I made it last year, and love seeing out in the living room at this time of year :)

I got the fabric from a bunch of different old xmas bag projects, and I really enjoy the tacky details of them all. The blue ones are especially fun.

The back is a little more subtle.. I love it.

I don't even really like cats, but this fabric is hilarious!

Hope to be back for the exams are over!

A Great Night

First off, thank you too all of the people who came out yesterday to the Fourth Fridays event. It was awesome, and really meant a lot to me!

The event was an art show/iterative craft event. My pieces were displayed around the room, and there was a big table in the center where people were crafting and making holiday decorations (or whatever they wanted to make)

We had a fairly good number come through, and the people that did come out were really excited to craft! It was a really cool experience to get to display my art work around the room too. I had a hard time figuring out how to display my quilts, but it worked out okay in the end I think. Definitely something I will have to think about/plan if I'm going to do another one of these events.

Check out the set up!

All the chairs were filled almost the whole evening! (I even had to get out more at one point!) :)

And the most amazing crazy thing happened... I sold one of my pieces!! I wasn't even close to cool about it either, I told her right away that she's the first person I have ever sold a piece too, and it was great! She was so nice about it, and didn't seem at all off put by my dorky excitement, in fact, I think she may have thought it was kind of endearing (at least I'm going with that). We even had a chance to talk for a while and she explained to me why the piece meant something to her, and why she wanted it. It was so cool.

All in all it was a lovely event and I'm glad I did it!

More Fabric = More Fun!

I just ordered some lovely new fabric for a quilt. I am so excited about this fabric it is just perfect for the quilt I have in mind. (I even managed to get it on a sweet sale, check out: Craftsy for craft supply deals. I just found this site, and I'm loving it!)

Here is the fabric I bought, the line is called Opal Owl by Tina Givens.

I am so excited for this project! :)

Sister Craftin'

My sister stopped by this past Thursday, and we did a little crafting together. She made a lovely little leather envelope out of the re-claimed leather I mentioned in this post. I wanted to share her sweet little envelope!

Definitelyanother good way to reuse the leather scraps I have stored up.

New Camera!

Today, I bought a brand new Fuji Instax mini 7S! It is like a Polaroid camera with instant film, but the film is a bit smaller (closer to a credit card size).

I am in love. I have only taken one picture, but its so fun to already have it up on my wall. Instant film is great!

Check it out!
I'm so in love! The film just pops out the top from the slot shown in the picture below! fun fun.
The film is great, and far less expensive then actual Polaroid film. Thank goodness!
The stapler is to give you scale of the film size... and the shiny bag is where the film is, I didn't want to take it out for the picture! (not sure if that is a no-no)
My first pic! It is of my mini Christmas tree that is on the main floor, so I can have a little christmas up on my wall in my room! (I just needed an excuse to take the first picture haha)
I can't wait to show you more pictures of my pictures!

My failed attempt at following a hair tutorial!

For the past few nights I have been meaning to try this very cool tutorial for "no heat curls" (Tutorial here: No Heat Curls).

It is supposed to produce big bouncy Sarah Jessica Parker type curls, and for those of you who actually follow the instructions, it probably will! I however, assumed that if I just make a ton more buns on my head then suggested, it can only get better? Right? Right?.....

Here is the night before, with my MANY little twisty buns on my head, ready to go to sleep.

They all stayed in tacked through the night too, probably why it turned out so very curly. Here is a oh so lovely morning picture:
Then, I took out all my little buns, only to find this hot head of hear! owww oww!
I didn't think it was all that bad (not what I wanted, but okay), but the tutorial said to brush out your hair to get the look, so i went ahead and brushed it all out.... As it turns out, when you do the first step wrong, it tends to affect the other steps. After brushing my hair, it turned into this hot mess...
So I decided to put all the hair in a pony tail to try and salvage the experience!
I think the pony actually turned out pretty cute, but one friend of mine did ask me if I got a perm haha! I guess I'm just an over achiever!

The pony tail pictures are from the end of the day too, and I didn't put any hair spray in. At least I can say I made curls that held very well!

Also, just to clarify, the tutorial was lovely, and really well made... I am just not the best at 1, following instructions and 2, doing my hair. It was a fun experiment though!

Reclaimed Leather Notebooks

A while ago (maybe even a year ago) my Aunt who is an Interior Designer gave me some of her old fabric swatch books. You know those books full of small squares of fabrics so you can get a feel for the different types... Just look at the picture below

Yes, so she gave me a book of leather samples a while ago, and they were so small I wasn't really sure what to do with them. I felt way to bad about the idea of throwing them away, so I just tucked them away waiting for inspiration to hit me. I finally decided to make them into cute little notebooks!

I had a lot of colours to pick from! The only colour I wish I had more of was the red. I never realized how lovely red leather was until now.

There you have it. Some little leather notebooks. I know I will get that swatch book used up eventually!
