What's on my walls

First off, sorry (to my 4 followers! haha) I have not been able to post lately. I just finished exams and I have been visiting family in Winnipeg!  I am also about to move into a new place! Because I am moving I thought I would do a little post about what is on my walls in my room right now before I pack it all up!

First I have my tree/bird art (finally hung properly!)

I love the back of my tree art, because it was so fun to finally get it stapled onto a frame! I definitely have a ton of ideas that I can use my new staple gun on!

Here is a little piece of fabric I painted on about a week ago. I just liked the sequins and thought I would play with it. I think it was a good enough first try.

Here is a close up on the sequins!

This is a tree I embroidered a while ago, that I posted about earlier. I didn't even it plan it, but it has the same colours as the painted fabric, seems I like pink and purple.

Below is a print of some leafs from last fall. I was hoping to do a quilt with these prints, but I never made enough! I will have to wait and do it next fall.

This is my little disco ball nook. I think my room used to be the living room in the house I am in, because I don't know what I am supposed to do with this nook in a bedroom! I decided to put my disco stuff in it.. I think it's pretty awesome.

So there it is, some of the projects that are on my wall! I have a few others, but I can save them for another post!

What a Hoot!

I am officially hoping on the crafting owl's bandwagon. I see pictures of adorable hand made owls everywhere, and I thought my sister would enjoy a nice owl creation for her birthday, so I gave it a try!

I made an owl coin purse and a cute stuffie owl that matches her bed! (Its really handy when you have also made someones bed quilt and you have left over scraps!) This was a first try, so I'm not really sure how great my owl skills are, but thankfully sisters will love you even if you give them slightly off looking owl gifts :):)

Here are my little  attempts

being propped up by some post it notes

I feel like the stuffed owl is giving me the stare down, but I do like his colours.

What a Hoot! ;)
I'm always nervous my homemade gifts will be something like a kid giving there mom a macaroni necklace for mothers day! It seemed as though Julia was excited though, hope so! :)

Also, to get the gift, my sister came to Guelph to hang out, and here are some lovely pics that came of our afternoon together.

work it!

Haters gonna hate.

full time model!

It was a lovely afternoon :)

Quilting Friends!

Okay so the quilt I'm posting today isn't a roommate quilt, and it isn't someone I taught (I think she was quilting quite a bit before me actually). It is however a beautiful quilt! I'm showing you two awesome quilts made by Andrea Penny.

The first is a super cool rainbow(ish) star quilt with rainbow thread! And the other is called a rag quilt, but it is nothing like rags, it is awesome!

Huge and beautiful quilt!!

The back fabric looks sooo cool too

Now the rag-quilt. I don't have as many pictures of this one, but hopefully you get the idea. Very cute, and it looks super cozy!

The final roomie is getting pictures of the quilt today I think, so hopefully I can share her quilt soon! :)

tree art!

First, my roomie started an awesome travel/picture blog, and everyone should check it out: http://glimpseoftheworld.tumblr.com/

Now, I still have a few roommate quilt pictures to get, but in the mean time I am posting a new project of mine!

I slowly worked on this over the past two weeks. I tried to start it while still working on my last quilt, but that seemed to be to much at once. So this is just a recent project. I don't know how I am going to hang it yet, but I'm actually really happy with the result, and I am definitely inspired to try more of this!!

(sorry the pictures are a bit blurry, I was struggling to get a few good ones)

"put a bird on it"

Inspiration for the bird comes from this hilarious clip from the short series Portlandia, check it out: Put a Bird on It!

I hope you like my new attempts at art! I will have more roommate quilts soon, and hopefully the beginning of another new quilt of mine! :)

Quilting Roommates 3.0

I'm onto my 3rd roommate, who has completed 2 stunning quilts! She made one for her bed, and one for her parents. They are very different but both look great!

The first one has unique squares, and is really bright and pretty! She used meandering quilting style on this quilt which is really difficult, and was SUPER impressive, especially for a first quilt.

The back of this quilt she did a cool pattern with brown, light brown and white.

Her second quilt (for her parents) is really cool. It is a beautiful H patten, and the colours are awesome. I looove the small cream border, and it is something I want to try for sure. (I always end up doing really large borders, but the small ones look so good)

The back of this quilt is really cool too. Its simple, but has that touch of fun creativity to it. I should also note, the colours match her parents house AMAZINGLY. Its great.

Work it!
Its fun being able to teach people how to quilt or assist them in what they want help with. Amanda was the first person I helped and was very patent with my "teaching". I tended to leave her unattended and often assumed she already knew a lot of sewing basics. She did however, learn very fast, and is now pretty darn good at sewing. I hope I have become better at teaching too!
