Quilting Roommates 2.0

I'm back already with another roommate quilt! This beauty of a quilt was made by my roommate Sky. She has already started on a second quilt for her parents (and has done a ton of other really cool sewing projects).

She made this quilt with stunning fabrics, and is super cool because both sides are so unique you don't really know which is the front or back. Both sides are totally usable as the front! The background fabrics on both are linen and it is very soft and cozy.

I really like the quilting patter on this one too. Just simple lines done the length of the quilt, but it fits the quilt very well.

You can't tell the size very well from this, but it is about the size of a double bed, its pretty big! And its lovely!

2 more roomie quilts will be coming your way soon!

Quilting Roommates 1.0

Last spring I moved into a house with 8 girls. when the 8 of us moved in together I was the only quilter, I do have one roommate who sewed already, but no other quilters.

Now, 11 months after moving in together, there are 4 roomies (other then me) who have completed quilts! So this begins my first installment of Quilting Roommates. There will be a total of 4 posts to show off each of the quilts that have been made! I am very excited.

I am starting off with my roommate Rebecca. She JUST finished her quilt (I'd say about 20 minutes ago). She let me take pictures right away.

This quilt is stunning, and I am so impressed! She used tiny little squares to create an overwhelmingly pretty quilt. It is really different then anything I have tried, and it has definitely given me new ideas on how to construct a quilt top.

I LOVE IT. I'm super impressed and the colours are out of control pretty.

I'll get pictures of roommate number 2's quilt asap, so I'll have another post ready in a few days. Get excited. :)

Donation Quilt DONE!

I finished the donation quilt and I dropped it off this morning! :) It felt really nice to have it all done, and in the end, I would say I'm quite happy with how it came out. It is definitely a modern quilt though, so hopefully that is someones taste.

The front of the quilt, all done! It looks a lot smaller to me now that its done, but I think its large enough for a cozy couch quilt, and definitely big enough for a single size bed.

It is super awkward to pose with a quilt this big, I didn't know what to do, but hopefully someone gets a kick out of this particular pose.

some more details

the back of this quilt is one of my favorites. I really liked sewing that giant square, and I want to make a whole quilt out of that style now!

So there it is, one more quilt, and my first quilt that isn't staying with me or going to an immediate family member.

WiP Wednesday!

I have never linked up with Freshly Pieced's WIP Wednesday, but I need some advise so I am getting involved!

I can not decide how to quilt my latest quilt. I was thinking simply straight lines all the way down the whole thing, but with the grid pattern I'm not sure? My other idea was square quilting  within the squares, and then simply straight lines in between the border fabric, if that makes sense?

Here is the quilt top for some reference:

Thanks for any opinions!  :)

Quilt back, and basted!!

I have been busy with everything lately, BUT i got in some time to finish sewing the back of the quilt, and I got it all basted! Im very happy because now, I should definitely be able to get it in by next Monday (if not earlier)! wow that seems soon, but I'm very excited.

Here are some pics of the back and the basted quilt (for those who don't quilt, basting just means having all three layers of the quilt pinned together, the front, batting and back.)

check it out!

back square, this was SO fun to make!

the back of the quilt, all basted.

My quilt picture assistant being a goof! :)

All basted. (took soo long, but I watched Thelma and Louise while I basted it, so it was fun!)

Me, just fluffing it out for more pics (you can see the back of the safety pins here a bit)

putting it away, to sew this week!
can't wait to see the final product, I'm very happy so far (thankfully!)

an older project

I have had zero time to do any crafting the last while, and was sitting in the computer lab quite sad about it this afternoon. So I'm posting an old project until I can get to some new ones!

Here is an piece of embroidery I made for my friends banjo case. It is definitely the biggest piece of embroidery I have done, but it was a great challenge. I hope to get some better pictures, but I gave the case back as soon as I was done, so I only have these pics.

I had finished embroidering the whole knot when I realized I had actually sewn through an area that kind of ruin the whole design. Thankfully, it was an easy fix, and now the knot is as it should look. I'm actually pretty proud of this piece as I really had only done one or two small projects before I took this one on.

So there it is a piece of embroidery for you at the end of a very long thursday for me.

Quilt top officially doneeee!

The quilt top is officially done!  I'm very excited :) It came out as bright and cheery as I had hoped. The gala where it is being auctioned takes place on March 26th, so I'm hoping by then that people will be feeling the spring vibes, and get excited about the colours in this cozy thing.

I will (finally) have some time to start quilting it after my last midterm next Wednesday, and I can't wait to get at it. I have been doing so much studying, I will be very happy when I'm back sewing :)

anyways, here it is!

my wing span was juuuuust big enough to hold this up!

Turns out its really hard to take pictures of large quilts, but thanks to my roomies for helping me out!

ps: I have 4 followers now!? FUN!! ... (yes, I realize that's a small number, but its exciting for me haha)
